“Leeds seem relaxed”: Journalist offers reassuring Whites promotion message

|

Leeds United are confident that they will be promoted if the season can’t be completed, despite increasing complaints from Premier League figures.

Norwich City’s sporting director Stuart Webber insisted that the Canaries wouldn’t be happy to go down from the top-flight, even after 38 games, if the Championship campaign remained incomplete. And, those views were echoed by Brighton striker Glenn Murray yesterday as he stressed the only way it would be fair is if both seasons played to a finish.

With the two clubs battling to stay in the Premier League, many have accused the two clubs of self-interest and any decision they make will impact the Championship and Leeds United. So, the Yorkshire outfit will hope that idea doesn’t come to fruition, although there’s nothing to suggest the authorities would go with it.

Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

Responding to a fan in a Q&A, The Athletic reporter Phil Hay revealed that figures at the Whites are calm about the situation and feel they are in a strong position.

Leeds seem relaxed. Any time I speak to anyone there, they feel like they’re on the right side of this – ready to play but deserving of promotion via PPG if they can’t.”

With every team in the Championship having played 37 games, applying points per game would end the table as it is. It remains to be seen exactly how the season will play out though but the EFL have made it clear that they want the fixtures played. If that does happen, Leeds will back themselves to finish the job as they hold a seven-point cushion over third-placed Fulham.
