Phil Hay rubbishes reports as Leeds United are linked with Premier League defender

|

Leeds United haven’t shown serious interest in Tottenham’s Juan Foyth despite reports linking the defender with a move to Elland Road.

The 22-year-old was considered an extremely bright talent for Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino, with his form at club level helping him win 10 caps for Argentina over the past few years. However, the appointment of Jose Mourinho in north London hasn’t helped Foyth as he has barely got a look in under the new boss and has failed to make the matchday squad for Spurs in 2020.

Therefore, his agent recently admitted he could be on the move and Football Insider have claimed that the Whites would want to sign the centre-back if they win promotion, as they stated he had been on Marcelo Bielsa’s radar before. Although, they would face competition for signature as Barcelona are rumoured to be a potential destination for the player.

Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

But, The Athletic reporter Phil Hay cooled talk of any potential deal when providing an update on the situation in a Q&A yesterday evening.

Foyth seems to have become the new Alan Smith or Billy Sharp. Linked in every window. If White goes back to Brighton, they will need another centre-back. But I haven’t heard him named as a concrete target.”

Bringing in a centre-back is sure to be a priority though, because as Hay says, there is a strong possibility that Ben White will return to Brighton after his hugely impressive season on loan in Yorkshire. The English youngster has played in every game for Leeds to help them to the top of the Championship but his form prompted Seagulls owner Tony Bloom to confirm he expects White to be part of their team moving forward.
