Our quest to get out of the Championship in 2019 is not yet over, but Football Insider understand that efforts are already being made to strengthen Marcelo Bielsa’s squad next term.

The insider outlet are suggesting that we have already expressed an interest in Forest Green Rovers’ soon-to-be free agent Reece Brown, who will likely hit the market in a matter of weeks for nothing more than a developmental fee.

His contract expiring in the summer is said to have attracted the interest of numerous sides, including Bristol City and Reading, as well, having been a sensation in League Two with ten goals and 14 assists.

He would certainly fit the player description Football Insider understand Bielsa is after, with the boss said to be keen on strengthening our attacking options, even if we are in the Championship again.

Unfortunately, though, a move for Brown is not the most exhilarating midfielder Victor Orta could add to the boss’ ranks, and there would certainly be a lot of doubt in the 23-year-old’s ability to make the step up from a League Two promotion hopeful side to one vying to be in the Premier League.

Instead, a move for the Birmingham product, who featured for the St Andrew’s natives in 16 second-tier games, could be see as the club preparing for life without Bielsa in the dugout, as Brown would be unlikely to offer us the needed boost to get into the Premier League next term, should we fall short over the next few weeks.

If nothing more, though, Brown would help to add depth to our ranks at a minimal fee, which would allow us to strengthen with more proven higher-tier talents.
