Leeds Join Chase for Highly Rated 20 y/o – It All Hinges On Orta

|

Leeds United’s summer transfer rumour mill sparked into life this afternoon with a new name – Arsenal talent Eddie Nketiah.

The highly rated 20-year-old Academy graduate has enjoyed a decent pre-season campaign so far under manager Unai Emery, scoring twice against Serie A side Fiorentina and bagging himself the winner as they took a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich.

Sky Sports reported the speculation earlier today but it was a typical ‘according to Sky sources’ piece and they namechecked fellow Championship side Bristol City as also being in ‘talks’ in an effort to secure his signature to a season long loan.

His progress over the last few years has been pretty decent at the Emirates Stadium. He featured for them in 2017/18 in both domestic cups, the Europa League, as well as a handful of Premier League substitute showings, and he scored a brace in the EFL Cup clash with Norwich City. Last season, he added an additional nine showings to his career tally, and found the net in the top flight in their May clash with Burnley at Turf Moor.

Arsenal now seem to be ready to let the young England Under 21 striker out for some real game time in the second tier and with it expected that Kemar Roofe’s switch out to Anderlecht will soon get the green light, and we obviously need cover and competition for Patrick Bamford, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one go through.

Whether or not he’s a suitable Roofe replacement, is an entirely different question, however.

Leeds Live have since reported that Victor Orta was in London today for talks, and although they understand that Bristol City are in pole position, everyone is pointing to Orta’s personal relationship with Emery from their Sevilla days as potentially being the clincher here.
