Leeds have ‘shown interest’ in Everton defender

|

Leeds United have stepped up their search for a centre-back and have now shown an interest in Everton and England international defender Michael Keane.

As per Leeds United Live, the 30-year-old who has only appeared once under former Everton boss Frank Lampard this season is on the radar of Southampton and West Ham, with Leeds the latest club to be linked to the defender. Keane joined Everton from Burnley in 2017 for a fee of £25m, appearing for the Toffees 189 times scoring 11 goals. The tough-tackling centre-back has also represented England on 12 occasions.

Leeds have been struggling of late in the defensive areas and some fans have been calling out for a proven Premier League defender to steady the ship. Keane could be just that player, his wealth of experience would not only sure up the defence, but he could also help the younger defenders such as Pascal Struijk and Cody Drameh, as well as competing for a place in the back line with Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and club captain Liam Cooper.

Leeds may have a challenge on their hands in their pursuit of Keane as it is believed Everton are reluctant to sell him to a Premier League rival, despite only playing 22 minutes in the Premier League this term, with his only starts coming in the EFL Cup.

Leeds have been very active so far and Jesse Marsch will be looking to tie up some more deals before the January transfer window closes at 11 pm next Tuesday.
