Leeds denied at the death

Leeds United were denied a crucial three points in the final moments of the game in an enthralling game at Elland Road.

The game lacked very little quality but was played between two side giving 100% in a rough and tumble championship game.

The first half saw very few clear-cut chances. Adam Clayton and Tom Lees fired wide for Leeds whilst goalkeeper Andy Lonergan raced out to deny West Ham striker Nicky Maynard a shot on goal after getting in behind the Leeds defence.

Leeds thought they had gone ahead close to half time when Snodgrass scored but referee Peter Walton had already blown his whistle for a foul by Luciano Becchio

The second half carried on pretty much the same but West Ham had much more of an aerial threat when Carlton Cole came on as a substitute.

Cole came close to breaking the deadlock when he fired over whilst at the other end a full length save from Robert Green denied Paul Connolly`s header.

Leeds broke the deadlock with just seven minutes remaining. Snodgrass put a ball into the middle and after Connolly`s initial header hit the crossbar, Becchio was on hand to head home from close range.

West Ham levelled the game in the last minute of normal time. Mark Noble swung in a corner and defender Danny Collins headed home from close range with Leeds players looking for a free kick.

The draw did little for either side`s hopes of promotion. Leeds are now five points off the play off places whilst West Ham are three point behind Reading in the final automatic promotion place.
