Leeds dealt transfer setback as £10m target tipped to reject Whites again – report

|

Leeds have long been linked with Czech Republic international Matej Vydra, so when his future with Burnley came into doubt, speculation naturally returned to suggest the Whites would try and sign the 27-year-old in a bid to finally escape the Championship.

It was even thought the Clarets would be open to cutting their losses on the former Derby County forward for £10million, having spent £11million to take him to Turf Moor a year ago on a £35,000-a-week contract.

Now, however, Lancashire Live are reporting that Vydra looks set to see out at least another year of his three-year contract, which includes an option to extend his stint at the East Lancashire outfit until the summer of 2022.

They also add that the Clarets never received an approach from Leeds over a possible transfer, and that manager Sean Dyche is not currently actively attempting to offload the 25-cap ace despite his struggles to hold down a place in his side.

Instead, the 47-year-old is hopeful that Vydra will be able to make a bigger impact next season, as he will benefit from a full pre-season programme under the Kettering-born manager.

Vydra, likewise, would have been expected to again reject the chance of joining the Whites, as he is intent on making the most of his chance to play in the Premier League and wants to do so with Burnley.
