Leeds deadline to complete transfer deal revealed

|

Illan Meslier will need to have his £5m option to buy clause activated by mid-May if Leeds want to get him at that price – according to Football Insider.

The Whites are hoping to get a deal sorted for the on-loan goalkeeper with his parent club Lorient, but it seems as though a deadline is in place on the pre-agreed fee.

Is Meslier worth £5m?

No

Indeed, according to the report, the stopper can be signed for £5m up to around mid-May but, after that, he could well cost the club more, with Lorient bound to be nowhere near naive enough to not boot the price up if something is not agreed by the expiry of the clause.

For the Whites, Meslier has impressed this season – particularly when he has been called upon in recent weeks with Kiko Casilla suspended from playing for the foreseeable future.

The current hiatus in the season means we could be playing in mid-May so it remains to be seen if that has an impact on the clause but you can imagine the Whites would potentially want to get the deal sorted before then anyway.

Meslier has done a good job since coming in and also impressed in the FA Cup game with Arsenal so there’s a good chance he’d do well in the Premier League next season, if we ever get there.

At the moment, though, things are all hanging up in the air and so it remains to be seen just exactly what gets agreed around the goalkeeper.
