Leeds are closing in on the signing of Gyrano Kerk from Eredivisie side Utrecht, a report from a print edition of the Sunday Mirror (27/09, p74) has claimed.

The Whites have been in the hunt for an attacking midfielder all summer, and it now looks as though they could be about to get one through the door in the form of Kerk.

According to the latest reports, Leeds are hopeful of completing a deal for the 24-year-old and announcing him at Elland Road within the next week.

It is thought that Leeds are close to agreeing a £10million fee with Utrecht for the attacker, with the two others clubs linked with the Dutchman – Serie A duo Verona and Cagliari – reluctant to pay more than £9million for the player.

Last season, Kerk scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in 30 appearances in all competitions for Utrecht, who sat sixth in the Dutch top-flight when the season was cancelled due to the global health situation.

This looks to be a really good deal for Leeds, if they are indeed able to pull this off over the coming days.

They do need an attacking midfielder to add an extra attacking outlet, and Kerk’s record for Utrecht at a high level last season, certainly suggests that he would be more than capable of filling that role for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

As well as being a threat for Leeds on the pitch, it also looks as though Kerk would be more affordable than some of the Whites’ other targets this summer, meaning this would be a good deal for the club from a financial standpoint as well.
