Announced on the Official club website and their Official Twitter account, Leeds United have announced the appointment of new U21’s head coach Michael Skubala. His appointment starts with immediate effect and he will take his first training session with the U21’s on Monday with the team preparing for their Premier League 2 Division 2 season getting underway.

‘Highly rated Skubala has held positions within the FA for a number of years, starting with heading up the national Futsal side before moving over to work with the national team’s youth set-up, culminating in becoming the coach for the England Under-18 team.’

Michael Skubala will be assisted by Michal Pudjak who remains as assistant coach of the U21 side. Previously, Pudjak worked alongside Mark Jackson who has moved up to work with Jesse Marsch on a full-time basis.

Victor Orta said “The role of head coach within the Under-21 side is clearly an important role at a club that sees so many players progress into the first team.”

“We interviewed candidates from across the world over the course of the summer, but the work Michael has done within the FA, alongside his ambitious plans for the group, gave him the edge and we are really pleased to welcome him to the club.”

Head of the Academy, Adam Underwood said “This is another clear sign of progression for our academy, the academy at Leeds United is a key part of our DNA and we believe that Michael is the best possible candidate to improve the group he will be working with, whilst preparing them to make the step up to becoming first-team players.”

Another step in the right direction for the club, securing another highly regarded and recognised coach to help the youngsters development. What do fans think, is Michael Skubala a good appointment? Let us know in the comments.
