Leicester gaffa Rob Kelly says the early dismissal of skipper Paddy McCarthy was a bitter blow and the referee got it wrong.
They say that lightning does not strike twice, but McCarthy was shown the red card in the reverse fixture at Elland Road in December for his heated protests after Matthew Kilgallon’s controversial goal in a 2-1 win for the Yorkshire side.
McCarthy was shown a straight red card after conceding a penalty, which Robbie Blake converted to equalise a goal from Leicester’s Iain Hume.
Rob Kelly: ‘I thought it was a penalty, but I was disappointed about the red card. But we will take it on the chin and I prefer to talk about the positives.
‘One of those was that today was when our players and supporters really bonded. We competed for 80 minutes with just 10 men and it was great credit to our players and supporters that they both kept going so well. But when backs are against the wall, that is the time you can see the true worth of people.
‘I thought that by leaving two strikers up front after we had gone down to 10 men we left them with something to think about. I didn’t want to give up the initiative to Leeds and I thought there was a chance we could have nicked it.
‘We are not out of the woods yet but performances like this do reinforce the belief that we can get out of trouble.’
