The midweek win over Watford took the Whites closer to the Blades, but it was back to square one on Saturday. Leeds manager Kevin Blackwell acknowledged that his side had not performed.

Blackwell: ‘I am disappointed because we weren’t quite at it today. There was a spark missing. We had enough possession to see them off, but it just didn’t happen. I tried freshening it up and even had on four strikers, but we just weren’t inventive enough.

‘For the amount of possession we had we were not incisive enough. We were just plain dead and we have to take the criticism for not seeing them off.’
