Leeds United could target Norwich City centre back Ben Godfrey as a potential replacement for Ben White, Leeds Live reporter Beren Cross has claimed.

Following his outstanding loan spell at Elland Road last season, White’s future remains somewhat up in the air, forcing Leeds to look for alternatives to fill his spot at the heart of their defence for their return to the Premier League in the coming campaign.

One name that has now been touted to fulfil that role, is Norwich’s Ben Godfrey, who could be available following the Canaries’ relegation after just a single season in the top-flight during the 2019/20 campaign.

However, it seems as though it may not be easy to sign Godfrey, with German giants Borussia Dortmund apparently keen on the Norwich man, who even now remains an alternative to White, rather than a priority for Leeds ahead of the Brighton man.

Discussing the club’s transfer targets in a Q&A on Leeds Live, Cross revealed: “Ben White, obvious as he is, is the main target. They will chuck everything they can at getting him if the deal’s there to be done.

“Ben Godfrey was on the list behind White, but the indications are he will go to Dortmund. They only want to do four, five tops.”

Would Ben Godfrey be a suitable replacement for Ben White?

If a reunion with White proves to be unattainable, then Leeds could probably do worse than Godfrey as an alternative.

Despite Norwich’s relegation this season, the 22-year-old has impressed with his individual performances in the top-flight, as evidenced by that interest in him from a team with the profile and quality of Dortmund.

As a result, Godfrey could certainly be a reliable addition for Leeds if they were to bring him to Elland Road, not to mention a major statement of intent if they were to beat a club such as Dortmund to the signing of the centre back.
