Jamie Redknapp “They need more and the home fans want more as well.”

Football television pundit and former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has said the Leeds fans ‘want more’ from their side.

The Bees held Leeds to a 0-0 draw at Elland Road yesterday and although the hosts played fairly well, they struggled to break down a stubborn Brentford defence and lacked a real cutting edge. All too often The Whites built up well from defensive areas and moved the ball around decent enough, but it was all too predictable and things broke down in the final third. Leeds played narrow and it was all too easy for Ben Mee, Ethan Pinnock and Kristoffer Ajer to deal with. When the home side did find a rare breakthrough, Raya in the Brentford goal dealt with things superbly.

All in all, it was a frustrating afternoon for the men in white, even though they had some good play in patches. One major positive was a clean sheet with new signing Maximilian Wober playing superbly at the back. He was ushering Robin Koch, Pascal Struijk and Luke Ayling into a strong defensive line, restricting Brentford to zero shots on target, a first for them in any Premier League game. Ivan Toney’s threat was neutralised in a solid defensive performance from Jesse Marsch’s side.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Jamie Redknapp said, “I think from Jesse Marsch’s point of view, one win at home since August, it’s not a great run. They’re lacking confidence and a little bit of quality as well.”

“There was more pressure on Leeds to get a point, but the flip side of it they’ll say that the teams at the bottom didn’t win, the bottom three, so it’s a point gained on two of the bottom three. They need more and the home fans want more as well.”

Up next for Leeds in the Premier League is a tricky game away at Nottingham Forest, with many teams in the bottom half having tough games themselves that weekend. Everton are at home to Arsenal, Leicester travel to Aston Villa, Southampton go to Brentford, Brighton host Bournemouth, West Ham travel to face Newcastle United and Wolves host Liverpool. A crucial round of fixtures for all involved in the relegation fight.
