From looking at the reports in the media, it appears that Leeds United are in the market for a striker, and Abel Hernandez could be the most cost-effective option for the Peacocks.

According to various media outlets, such as Hull Live, Leeds United are interested in the services of Abel Hernandez who is available on a free transfer following his release from Hull City.

Without question, a lack of goals was a severe issue for Leeds United during the season, and it seems that the club have identified the need to bolster their attacking options. Matej Vydra has been widely linked with a move to Yorkshire, yet Abel Hernandez could prove to be a shrewd signing.

Since joining Hull at the start of the 2014-15 season, the Uruguayan forward has attained a respectable total of 39 goals in 111 games, 22 of which were scored in the 2015-16 season as the striker played a pivotal role in the Tigers’ promotion to the Premier League.

Despite being limited to only ten league appearances this season, Hernandez succeeded to score eight goals – a useful reminder of his goal-scoring prowess.  The key to harnessing the striker’s capabilities is to keep him fit, which proved to be a struggle at Hull.

Over the course of his Hull career, the 27-year-old was absent for 52 games due to injury (as per transfermarkt) which could make him less appealing to potential suitors. Although, when considering his qualities and the fact that he’s available on a free transfer, Hernandez could be the most appropriate candidate for Leeds United.

The striker has demonstrated his worth on the international stage, in Serie A, and in the Championship. Furthermore, such experience could prove to be crucial as the Peacocks look to return to the top-tier of English football. I believe wholeheartedly that Hernandez could be a gamble worth taking.
