“I know his main aim” – Ex-Leeds favourite reveals update on £30m ace’s future amid interest

Former Leeds United man Michael Brown has moved to clarify the future of Kalvin Phillips, in an interview with The Express.

Phillips has been in sensational form this season, earning him links with various different Premier League clubs. Manchester United were said to have been interested in making a move for the Yorkshire-born ace after he impressed scouts. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on activating his release clause, which sits above £20m.

Do you think Kalvin Phillips will leave Leeds United this summer?

No

He has been in great form for the Whites this campaign and has dominated various aspects of the football we play. The Leeds academy graduate has averaged the most tackles and the joint-third most blocks, acting as a wall in front of the defence, as per WhoScored.

However, despite being a defensive midfielder, he has also been prominent in attack, averaging the joint-third most key passes and has been the joint-fourth most fouled player for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. He also averages over 80% pass accuracy and has played over five long balls per game, showing his ability on the ball.

He hasn’t featured as regularly as we may have wanted him to due to the fact he’s notched up seven yellow cards and a red, seeing him miss four Championship games.

Brown’s comments will come as good news to us with the former Elland Road favourite adamant that the £30million-valued midfielder loves the club and is solely focused on earning top-flight promotion with the side. He said: “Kalvin Phillips loves Leeds United. He grew up loving Leeds United. I know his main aim at the moment is to get Leeds United in that Premier League.”

But, Brown didn’t stop there as he went on to praise the ace for his ability and listed all the different positions he can play. He added: “He’s a fantastic player to have played so many games. He can play in a back three, back four, as a holding midfield player, an advanced midfielder, a 6, an 8, a 4…”
