“I don’t think it’s just Leeds that are interested”: Whites given transfer warning as speculation builds over defender

|

Leeds United have been warned that they are likely to face competition for Rangers defender Connor Goldson if they make a move for the player in the transfer window.

No matter what division the Whites are in next season, it seems pretty clear that they are going to have to bring in a new centre-back. Firstly, Ben White’s form after joining on loan from Brighton has seen him attract interest from several elite clubs and the Seagulls have made it clear that they want to keep the player anyway. As well as that, backup option Gaetano Berardi is out of contract in the summer and it remains to be seen where his future lies.

Therefore, the Championship leaders will already be drawing up a list of options and it has been suggested that Goldson is a target. And, former Rangers full-back Alan Hutton has indicated to Football Insider that there could be plenty of competition for the signature of the 27-year-old.

Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

On the whole he’s been a very good signing for Rangers so it doesn’t surprise me big teams like Leeds are looking at him.

He’s obviously had good appearances in Europe that a lot of clubs will be watching. I don’t think it’s just Leeds that are interested, I’ve heard rumours of other clubs.”

Goldson has been a regular for Steven Gerrard at Ibrox this season, featuring in 29 games in the Scottish top-flight, where the Glasgow side finished second to rivals Celtic. He has also starred in the Europa League in what has been a remarkable run for Rangers, who are still in the competition, although they do face a tough task to reach the quarter-final after they lost the first leg to Bayer Leverkusen.

With that in mind, Leeds may need to offer Premier League football to tempt Goldson to move back down south but they will hope that happens, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men currently seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with nine games left to play.
