‘He’s gonna absolutely smash it’ – These fans notice ex-Leeds man’s late Deadline Day transfer

|

Chelsea product Izzy Brown has the attention of some Leeds United supporters again, as the former on-loan Whites midfielder completed a late Deadline Day deal to join Luton Town.

Brown’s parent club Chelsea confirmed the one-season transfer at 18:20 on Thursday, August 8; 80 minutes after the window had technically slammed shut for Premier League and Championship sides.

Transfers could still be announced well into the evening, though, providing both clubs and the player had agreed to the move before 17:00, or had submitted a ‘deal sheet’ to the Premier League to prolong negotiations until 19:00.

Luton’s move to sign Brown on loan for the season met the needed criteria, and the 22-year-old has returned to the second-tier having struggled for game time at Elland Road while on our books in 2018/19.

Despite signing on loan with us last summer, it took until February before Brown’s name would feature on a Marcelo Bielsa teamsheet, and he did not make his United debut until the fourth instance – a nine-minute run out at Queens Park Rangers.

His second, and last, appearance for Leeds came in the Play-Off Semi-Final Second-Leg, when the boss looked despairingly at his bench longing for a game-changer with time ticking away, and called on Brown for the final two minutes.

The £4.5million-rated attacking midfielder missed much of the start of the campaign, as he signed for the club during his recovery from a cruciate ligament rupture and later suffered a hamstring injury in an Under 23s fixture.

He has joined Luton now, though, and could make his Hatters debut on Saturday, when Graeme Jones takes his Kenilworth Road side to Cardiff City looking for their first win of the term having drawn with Middlesbrough last Friday.

Here’s how these Whites fans reacted when news of the 5 ft 9 man’s move reached the r/Leeds United Reddit page…
