Leeds United playmaker Pablo Hernandez has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The 33-year-old, who was out of contract at the end of this season, has ended speculation linking him with a move away from Elland Road by signing a deal until the summer of 2020.

Hernandez, in his second season at Leeds having spent last season on loan at Elland Road before completing a permanent deal last summer, says he had options to move away from Leeds but his first choice was always to remain with the club.

“It is a good day for me and for my family,” Hernandez told the Leeds official website.

“I’ve always said my first option was to always stay at Leeds because I am very happy here.

“It was an easy decision for me to make, this is a big club with unbelievable fans and an unbelievable history.

“The fans always support me and this support is very important, I really like the fans and they made this decision even easier for me.

“Coming to the end of my contract, I had some options to go elsewhere in England or back home to Spain, but for me, I wanted to stay here.”

The former Spanish international has scored nine goals this season in 42 appearances and he is on the shortlist to be named the clubs Player of the Season.

Leeds now have no senior player at the club out of contract this summer.
