“He Deserves The Right Reception” – Bielsa Comments As Leeds Fans Welcome The Magic Hat Back

|

The departure of Leeds United centre-half Pontus Jansson during the summer transfer window was certainly a development few fans expected, and making the switch to Griffin Park and Brentford certainly wasn’t a destination many would’ve picked for the popular Swede.

On Wednesday evening, we welcome Pontus’ new side to Elland Road for our first clash of the year and it’s bound to be a tasty affair after incidents in 2018/19 – Jansson’s involvement is only going to add further spice to the match as some overreacted to his words and the various claims that were made after his summer switch.

For most, he’ll get a warm welcome back I suspect, get booed for 90 minutes, and then applauded off at the end. That certainly seems to be manager Marcelo Bielsa’s approach to things as he addressed his return in his pre-game press conference.

“He deserves to be received with the right reception. He was the best player last season. I cannot talk about his previous years because I wasn’t here. He did a high level last season. I appreciate what Jansson gave to the team. I think the fans are going to be fair and recognise what Jansson did here.”

As long as we walk out with all three points, that’s all most are going to care about as we all know even popular players move on.
