“Hasn’t lived up to expectation”: Ex-Leeds ace would not miss 5 ft 7 Whites man linked with exit

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan seemingly would not miss Adam Forshaw if the midfielder is sold this summer, having told Football Insider: “He hasn’t lived up to expectation.”

Forshaw has emerged as a potential target for recently-relegated Fulham, as manager Scott Parker is searching for proven Championship talents that have the potential to dominate the centre of the park at Craven Cottage.

Parker’s search for central options that have the ability to dictate the flow of the game is thought to have led the former England international to Elland Road, as Forshaw is seen as a ‘battle-hardened’ star that fits his criteria, despite the 27-year-old suffering with injuries throughout his time with the Whites.

Talks have reportedly begun with the United board open to selling the Liverpool-born Everton product this summer, but are intent on recouping most, if not all, of the £4.5million we spent to bring him to West Yorkshire 17-months ago.

If true, Whelan feels the move to South-West London could be beneficial to all, as Forshaw’s talents may better-suit the Cottagers than Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.

“He hasn’t lived up to expectation,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He’s been in and out of the side last year with Leeds. He was a player who was highly spoken about by Middlesbrough, but obviously, they let him go for a reason as well.

“I think Adam’s got fantastic ability, the way he retains the ball, his passing, [but] we needed a little bit more from him last season. A couple of mistakes crept into his game passing-wise, a bit of slackness.

“If he does go to Fulham, then he’s going to a very good side, isn’t he? Maybe they see him as a perfect fit. Maybe he wasn’t for Leeds.”
