Grayson – I only wanted top quality players

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson admitted that the club were close to bringing in a few players on transfer deadline day but he was only interested in Premier League players.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said, “I thought I was going to get a deal with a player at one stage and then his club changed their minds. I could have signed three or four different players but they would only have made us an average team.”

Grayson brought in three players during the transfer window. Andy O`Brien, George McCartney and David Gonzalez all came from Premier League clubs.

Grayson insisted that he is only looking for players of that quality, “I was going for the top end of the market in terms of players that have played in the Premiership and have got the quality. I wasn`t prepared to settle for anything second best because they`d find it hard to get into the team. I do want squad players.
“If anyone is going to come in, they have got to go straight into our team to make us better,” he continued

Fans were left disappointed with the lack of activity on the final day but Grayson admitted he came very close and he may pursue his enquiries when the loan window reopens next week. Grayson continued, “I was close to a couple of big signings but they didn`t quite come off but the window opens again in a week and we might be able to do it then.”

Leeds still have an inability to keep the ball out of their own net and fans will be hoping that Grayson can strengthen the side in these positions.
