GiveMeSport: Leeds to hold talks with winger

|

According to a GiveMeSport exclusive piece with well-renowned football writer Pete O Rourke, Leeds United are now expected to ‘sit down’ with representatives from Jack Harrison’s camp over negotiations around a potential new contract at Elland Road, just days after the 26 year old came close to leaving Leeds for Premier League rivals Leicester City.

Deadline Day of the recent January transfer window saw the Leeds man almost complete a move to the KC Stadium, though reports indicated that he had snubbed a move to The Foxes and would be staying put at Leeds. However, yesterday it was revealed by Leeds United correspondent with The Athletic Phil Hay that the winger’s departure came closer than a lot of fans were aware of – with him even travelling to Leicester to undergo a medical to pre-empt any last minute decisions from Leeds to accept Leicester’s £25 million offer.

In the latest developments, it now appears as though Leeds have done a U-turn on their willingness to sell Jack Harrison, with speculation circulating that the club will sit down with the player and his representatives to discuss a possible contract extension.

Harrison currently has less than 18 months remaining on his current deal at Leeds, which sees him through to the end of the 2023-24 football season next year. While Leeds may very well want to tie him down and keep him as an important first team player, the possibility can’t be ruled out that they want him to put pen to paper on a new deal to bolster his transfer valuation.

For instance, if a similar situation arises with Harrison where the player is close to leaving next season, Leeds would face a reality where the clock is ticking on his existing contract, and transfer bids from other clubs would be significantly lower as a result.

Jack Harrison has been at Leeds for four and a half years now, and he’s certainly been at Elland Road for the ups and downs. With nearly 200 appearances for the Whites to his name, he’s undoubtedly an important part of the first team picture under Jesse Marsch. If he can find the consistency, we all know that he has the quality to help steer Leeds away from the wrong end of the table as the season progresses. Hopefully it can continue to work out for him at Elland Road.
