Frank wary of Leeds pace and a hostile Elland Road

|

Thomas Frank has been speaking to the media ahead of his side’s trip to Elland Road tomorrow and warned of the threat the Whites carry in a packed Elland Road.

The last time the sides met was early September with The Bees winning the game 5-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium. A poor defensive display saw The Whites collapse in the second half as Ivan Toney ran riot, claiming the match ball for a superb hat-trick. Leeds find themselves in the bottom six again this season with their last win coming in early November in a 7-goal thriller against Bournemouth. However, since then they have played Tottenham, Manchester City and Newcastle in a tough run of fixtures for Jesse Marsch’s men.

Leeds demolished Cardiff in midweek, racing to a five-goal lead before defensive weaknesses set in again, allowing Cardiff to make the scoreline respectable with two late goals, a trend that has summed up their story this season. Jesse Marsch believes The Whites’ performances have been getting better, and they shouldn’t be in the position they are in when it comes to the Premier League table. A statement Thomas Frank seems to echo. As per Leeds United Live, he said, “The team play and perform much better than the results they’ve got. I understand why Marsch said that the Villa game [Leeds lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on 13 January] is a ‘go-to’ performance.”

“They looked such a threat and have players going forward who have pace and a big skillset. We need to be very well-organised, and we need to believe in ourselves. We are on a good run, and we need to use that confidence. Our attitude is that we are confident but humble.”

He added, “We’re going to Leeds, one of the most difficult away grounds, they have very good fans, who make a lot of noise.”

Leeds will be hoping to carry the momentum gained from the emphatic Cardiff City victory, into their league form, with Nottingham Forest up next after Brentford in the Premier League. In between those fixtures is an FA Cup fourth-round trip to either Boreham Wood or Accrington Stanley.

Leeds really do need to start picking up some wins. As the bottom six starts to take shape, teams like Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Leicester are starting to gain momentum and climb away from the relegation places and the Whites need to follow suit and start looking upwards rather than over their shoulder.
