Forshaw fighting for a contract extension

|

According to LeedsLive, Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw is fighting for his career at Elland Road as he attempts to come back from another lengthy injury.

The 31-year-old is suffering from déjà vu, coming back from another long-term injury whilst his Leeds United career hangs in the balance, just as it did this time last year. The former Middlesbrough man was starting his first game in the Premier League for over four years and was playing particularly well in a struggling Leeds midfield. Forshaw played ten games in a row from November to January, and that form earned him a new deal.

12 months later and he is facing the same predicament, his current deal will be entering the final six months by the time the season resumes against Manchester City at the end of December, only this time his current contract has the option of a further 12 months, rather than a straight contract through to the 2023/24 season. The Whites obviously had reservations about the midfielder’s fitness and injury concerns and with less than an hour’s playing time in the Premier League this season, Forshaw must prove he is worthy of the extension.

Whilst the season is on a break for the World Cup in Qatar, the Whites have held individual training camps and will play a series of friendly matches in the run in to the league restart, and Forshaw must convince Jesse Marsch that he is worthy of a place in the squad. With the success of Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and upcoming youth players Sam Greenwood and Darko Gyabi, the midfielder will have to be at his best to at least be in the coach’s plans for the future.

What do you think, does Forshaw deserve a contract extension? Let us know in the comments.
