Former Player Believes “Proper Athlete” Has Everything To Succeed At Leeds

|

Versatile former Leeds United player Andy Hughes does have a cult like status amongst some fans, purely for the effort he put in during his few years at Elland Road during a darker spell in our history, more than playing his part in our promotion back to the Championship from League One.

A coach in his own right now after hanging up his boots, he was recently on BBC Radio Leeds giving his thoughts on all things Leeds following our victory over Preston North End on Tuesday evening, and he picked one man out for particular praise for his efforts and development this year.

“Roberts is developing. He’s a young man. He is a great size by the way, a proper athlete. All the experiences and all the journeys these players have been on previously and that they are on now, it’s all wonderful experience. They are used to playing in front of huge crowds in the Championship and at Elland Road, and in intense atmospheres. And that is what you need as a young player.”

Roberts, who was called up to represent Wales at senior level back in September, has earned six caps for his country since then.

Having finally got himself up and running following his injury hit arrival from West Bromwich Albion back in the January 2018 window, across all competitions he has 20 starting appearances to his name, with seven additional showings from the bench, and in our Championship campaign he’s contributed three goals and four assists.

His season got better as he gained international recognition for Wales back in September, and clearly, he has a lot of developing left to do, but he’s certainly got something about him.
