Many Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media after Whites icon Tony Dorigo shared a throwback post to the 1992 FA Charity Shield win over Liverpool.

The club’s former left-back shared an image of himself and Eric Cantona holding aloft the Charity Shield at Wembley as part of a current trend circulating social media platforms, where fans and footballing figures post one photo of significance from their time involved in the game.

The trend was inspired to spark conversation among fans and footballing figures whilst the 2019/20 season is postponed, with those involved in the game challenged to carry on by sharing their own significant moments.

But Dorigo’s post did not do this as his instead sparked many Leeds fans to reflect fondly on our “great” day at Wembley, though some focused on what the future would have in store for Cantona in the years after lifting silverware with the Whites.

Who has missed more big chances to score after 37 league games?

United certainly enjoyed a “great” day at Wembley in August 1992 when Howard Wilkinson’s Leeds would clinch the curtain-raiser with a 4-3 win over Liverpool, who had twice pulled back level after Cantona’s 26th-minute opener and Dorigo’s hit shortly before the break.

Cantona would go on to secure a hat-trick in the second-half before Gordon Strachan would put the ball into his own net, but the damage dealt by our French forward was enough to ensure the Scot’s error did not lead to a loss.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Dorigo’s post…
