“He is absolutely correct” – Lots of Leeds fans react to EFL ace’s “no brainer” claim

Lots of Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media after Millwall defender Jed Wallace claimed the Championship season must be played to a close.

The Den regular believes voiding the 2019/20 season would go against what playing the game means, and that it would not be fair to the teams at the top of the league tables if their hard work would count for nothing.

The Championship season is currently on hold until, at least, April 30 due to the coronavirus pandemic, while the FA have already moved to scrap most non-league seasons and the Premier League are in talks over holding a World Cup-style run of fixtures in order to play their remaining games.

Wallace has pointed to our spirited comeback over his side in January as one example of why the EFL campaign must be played to a complete 46 game schedule, as the atmosphere inside Elland Road that day perfectly demonstrated the emotional turmoil fans go through supporting their sides.

“This season has to finish, in my opinion,” Wallace told News at Den. “It’s absolutely not fair on the teams at the bottom and the teams like us. There are so many complicating factors.

Who has missed more big chances to score after 37 league games?

“What happens if the season gets voided? Do teams like Cardiff get another year of [Premier League] parachute payments?

“If the season did end all the emotions that have gone through it – the atmosphere in the stadium when we beat Charlton, the atmosphere at Elland Road when Leeds beat us, staged a comeback – those moments then mean nothing.”

Both Leeds and Millwall would stand to lose out if the season were declared null and void, with United currently atop the Championship standings and seven points clear of the Play-Off places.

The Den natives, on the other hand, are six points outside the Play-Off places, but were closing the gap to sixth-placed Preston North End before the season was put on pause.
