“Forget next season”, “Sensible from the EFL” – Lots of Leeds fans react as EFL issue update

|

Lots of Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media after the English Football League announced that their ‘primary objective’ was to resume the 2019/20 season when possible.

Play is currently on ice until, at least, April 30 after the EFL further postponed all fixtures due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has sparked questions around the country over how the current campaign will finish or if it even can, though the term has been indefinitely extended in order to play the full contingent of fixtures

Declaring the season null and void would have led to dire consequences for team’s challenging for promotion or save those fighting relegation, while simply extending the term is no easy fix with some contracts expiring on June 30 and the uncertainty over when it will be safe to play again.

The EFL are intent on resuming the current campaign once it does become safe to do so, and issued a statement on Tuesday declaring that a £50million short-term relief package will also be available for club’s struggling financially via interest-free loans.

The statement led to many Leeds fans taking to social media to offer their thoughts on the matter, with the club currently atop the Championship standings and on course to secure Premier League football.
