Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer has said he is in “no doubt” the club will turn down permanent offers for young centre-back, Charlie Cresswell.

In an article posted by LeedsLive, the ex-player turned pundit said, “All clubs are looking for good young players, you know, and Charlie’s doing brilliant at Millwall. He has really impressed. A lot of clubs are looking at him, but he’s very highly rated by Leeds United.”

He added, “Leeds have a strong squad, so that’s why they’ve let him go out on loan. I have no doubt in my mind that Leeds will not be letting this young player go.”

Speculation has heated up around the 18-year-old in recent weeks with Norwich City the latest club to be interested in the promising youngster, and with Cresswell being left out of the team by Millwall boss Gary Rowett, that speculation is only going to mount further.

Leeds fans are rumoured to be keen on the defender being recalled in January, with the likes of Diego Llorente being left out of the team after a run of poor performances from the Spain international and club captain Liam Cooper not filling the fans with optimism with his recent form after return from injury. Many see Cresswell as a future captain of the club after strong campaigns in the youth team and commanding performances in the first team against West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers last season.

The youngster went out on loan to get crucial game time after only 7 appearances for the first team in all competitions last season but has found himself frozen out at The Den in recent weeks, leading to calls for his loan spell to be cut short. It seems pointless to leave him at Millwall if he isn’t playing, so the club may allow him to go elsewhere. With the current defence at Leeds shipping goals of late, Jesse Marsch may utilise his services in the first team after all.

What do fans think, should Leeds be listening to offers for the youngster? Let us know in the comments.
