Defender completes Leeds move

|

Leeds United have completed the signing of 18 year old defender Diogo Monteiro from Swiss Super League side Servette.

Confirmed this morning, Monteiro has put pen to paper on his three and a half year contract at Leeds after the successful completion of his medical yesterday.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted about the defender’s signing this morning:

Romano states that the 18 year old will replace 29 year old Spanish defender Diego Llorente, who will join Jose Mourinho’s Serie A side AS Roma.

Diogo Monteiro has been capped by the Portugal national side at an under 17 level, and has registered a handful of league appearances in the Super League with Servette. He’ll join up with the Leeds developmental and academy squad at Thorp Arch, and hopefully can make an impact there as the 2022-23 season progresses.

Monteiro’s arrival is another element of a busy end to the January transfer window at Elland Road. Last night the club confirmed the signature of USA midfield star Weston McKennie from Juventus, and as noted, defender Diego Llorente will be heading out the door to join Roma.

Leeds also face a decision on their hands regarding the future of winger Jack Harrison. Leicester City are pursuing a move for the defender, but Leeds willingness to sell could be a deciding factor. Should Harrison leave for the Foxes, it is possible Leeds make a late swoop for another winger.

We’ll monitor all the stories and keep you posted as they unravel as the transfer deadline approaches tonight. For now, we’ll say welcome to Elland Road Diogo Monteiro!
