Cup Run Or Promotion?

The glory of the FA Cup is something we all know at Leeds, but what if it hit our promotion push? What would YOU go for?

I know it will never be ‘what shall we go for – promotion or the cup’ … and I was delighted with that equaliser to knock the stuffing out of the Great Pretenders at the JJB. But Kevin Blackwell is seriously concerned about the fixture pile-up.

The one bonus for Leeds is that they will at least gain extra revenue from the replay, with a crowd that is certain to be far in excess of the paltry 11,000 that turned up at the JJB.

Blackwell: ‘What we really wanted was to win the game outright. But we didn’t do that and now we’ve got a replay, which will at least bring in a bit of money – and keep the chairman (Ken Bates) happy!

‘I remember coming here last year and leaving thoroughly disappointed because we were given a real lesson. But we have found out that we have come a lot further down the road than we were at this time last year.

‘I know Paul had one eye on the Arsenal game, but we acquitted ourselves well and there wasn’t much difference between the sides. The players he has here are very committed, and I thought we matched that as well.

‘That was a sloppy goal to give away, particularly as we should have gone one up just before that.

‘When they scored I think everybody was stunned, Wigan fans and players alike, but that’s sometimes the difference in the Premier League.

‘My lads then rallied round and in the end I feel we got what we deserved.’
