Rob Hulse’s late equaliser was a dream for Leeds fans but has served up an extra fixture neither his manager Kevin Blackwell nor Wigan boss Paul Jewell needed. But let’s face facts here, it’s more a problem for Wigan now, because they have to come to Elland Road.

After four matches in eight hectic days over Christmas and New Year, both Wigan and Leeds now face an FA Cup third-round replay at Elland Road on January 17 following this draw at the JJB Stadium.

Jewell: ‘Before the game I’m sure this is the result neither club would have wanted. But at the end of the day you never want to lose games, and although we didn’t want to replay, we don’t like being beaten either.

‘After we scored I think we had the game won, but our injuries took their toll and Leeds threw caution to the wind.

‘Once you go down to 10 men in a cup tie against a team who have got nothing to lose then you are always going to struggle.’
