The future of Leeds United manager Brian McDermott is still unclear after owner Massimo Cellino says he felt the pressure got too much for the Leeds boss during the long drawn out takeover saga and he plans to sit down with him over the next ten days to decide his future.
Cellino also says he plans to sit down in the next week to ten days with McDermott once things have cooled down at the end of another turbulent season at Elland Road.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Cellino said, “I must be 100% confident with my coach.
‘I must have a coach that is very good on the field and helps me manage by choosing players.
‘I am looking for that and then when the season starts, I must be sure – if it’s McDermott or anyone else – that we must not be insecure. We must be sure about what we are looking for.
‘He wasn’t ready to manage the club. He was maybe a good coach but did not have enough managerial experience to manage a confusing situation like the one he found at Leeds.
I think the pressure at the club got too much for him.”
“We will let things cool down and be a little bit more rational.
“I think in the next seven to ten days we will be ready to talk about the future.
“We cannot waste money on changing managers. If I need to face that with Brian, I need to be sure because we cannot change managers at regular cost to the club.
“We need to talk and figure it out personally between me and Brian.”
Cellino sacked McDermott at the end of January before completing his takeover at Elland Road, something that was overturned within 24-hours by then owners GFH Capital.
McDermott returned to work at Elland Road but he faced a difficult time as Leeds continued to slip down the championship table winning just three of twenty-one games.
Cellino finally completed his takeover at Elland Road in April and ironically, the fortunes of the team on the pitch have shown an upturn since, with the side winning three and drawing one of their last six games of the season.
