Leeds are set for a boost to their transfer budget following speculation about a potential big move for former Whites goalkeeper Elia Caprile.

Caprile, 21, joined Leeds in 2020 but left Elland Road in July 2022 for a move to Serie B side Bari, having not made an appearance at the club in his short tenure.

The Italian goalkeeper has been in impressive form for Bari, registering 7 clean sheets so far this season.

And now, it appears as though his good form has not gone unnoticed, as Serie A league leaders Napoli are reportedly eyeing up a move for the 21 year old [via LeedsLive].

What will be pleasing for Leeds fans about this move is that when Caprile joined Bari, the Whites included a handsome 50% sell-on clause on the goalkeeper’s next move.

The player’s agent is said to still be negotiating personal terms for Caprile with Napoli, and because Leeds will claim 50% of the transfer fee, there are still negotiations ongoing between the two clubs to determine the final price tag.

Realistically, it is unlikely to be a mouth-watering amount incoming for Leeds; Caprile is a Serie B goalkeeper. Additionally, a transfer fee in Italy, generally speaking, won’t quite match the figures we’re used to seeing among Premier League clubs – for instance, in the summer 2022 transfer window Premier League clubs spent as much as the other four top European leagues combined [via The Telegraph].

However, it could give Leeds a little bit of extra spending money to help improve the current squad, with rumours of a £35m move for a striker reportedly in the works.
