Leeds might just be one step closer to securing £250k winger – report

|

If you’ve been reading Leeds United stories these past few weeks, you’d think they are only interested in signing wingers this summer.

They’ve been linked with so many it’s sometimes hard to keep up. You’ve got Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson & Ovie Ejaria all from Liverpool, as well as Bristol City’s Callum O’Dowda, and that’s before we get to Carlisle United’s Liam McCarron.

Leeds have been linked with the young man for some time, and hope to fight off competition from other teams in order to secure his services with a £250,000 bid. And they could be one step closer to taking those reports and turning them into a reality.

The News and Star are reporting that a Championship club has made a bid for the young man. Now whilst they did not confirm who the club is, they did say that it was a Championship club. Seeing as only two clubs mentioned in the Daily Mail report are in the Championship, with Wolves and Sheffield United having been promoted, that leaves Derby County and Leeds. With the Rams unlikely to make any moves until they know who their manager is, by process of elimination, that only leaves Bielsa’s side.

You imagine that this move is something for the future rather than to make an immediate impact. You could understand an 18-year-old making a move straight to the first team from two divisions below if he had scored 10 goals and contributed 15 assists or any other kind of eye-popping numbers.

However, McCarron only started three times for United last season in the league, with his remaining 13 appearances coming from the bench, and only managed to contribute one assist.

So whether Bielsa plans to lock him down and then loan him back out again or keep him at the club in the younger age groups, we don’t know. Maybe he see’s something the rest don’t and can turn him into something at Championship level, what we do know is that we could be a lot closer to finding out.
