“A fabulous addition”: Former Leeds United defender urges club to seal deal for Premier League man

|

Danny Mills has called on Leeds United to seal a deal for Joe Hart after it was revealed the keeper would be willing to take a pay cut to join the Whites.

The former England stopper, who won 75 caps for his country, is out of contract with Burnley in the summer and it’s unclear where his long-term future lies, although it seems inevitable he will leave Turf Moor having sat on the bench for the past 18 months with Nick Pope number one for the Clarets.

It had been suggested that a move to Leeds could be on the cards, with a report stating that Hart could join the Championship leaders on a free if they win promotion. And, speaking to Football Insider, Mills explained why this would be a great move by Marcelo Bielsa.

It has been difficult for him but he is still a fabulous goalkeeper and there is no reason why he cannot come to a massive club like Leeds and resurrect his career.

“If you have a goalkeeper like that, if Leeds can get him on a free transfer, it would be a fabulous addition. He works incredibly hard, he is incredibly dedicated and is very fit. It is highly possible that deal can be done.”

Would you sign Joe Hart if we are promoted?

Yes

No

The goalkeeping issue could be something that Bielsa looks to address in the coming months as Kiko Casilla, who had been a regular since joining from Real Madrid, is currently serving an eight-game ban for using racist language and it has been said that he could look to return to Spain when the window opens. His deputy Illan Meslier has shone since coming into the XI, keeping consecutive clean sheets, and Leeds are expected to sign him permanently in the summer but at 20-years-old they may prefer a more experienced option if they reach the top-flight.

The immediate focus for the Yorkshire outfit will be to secure promotion, although it’s still unclear when the season will resume, with Leeds holding a seven point cushion over third-placed Fulham.
