The 2018 / 2019 season drew a whole lot nearer this morning with the official release of the fixture lists.
Following the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa as the new incumbent of the managerial hot-seat, the Leeds United support have high expectations that this could very well be the season in which Leeds make a triumphant return to the top-tier of English football.
But, if that is to be the case then it is essential that Bielsa gets his side off to a good start, the history books show that very few teams can afford to fall off the pace and still hope to get promoted.
Therefore, it is essential that from our early fixtures we don’t find ourselves playing catch-up.
But, with the first five fixtures being against:
• Stoke City (h)
• Derby County (a)
• Rotherham United (h)
• Swansea City (a)
• Norwich City (a)
How will the side fare?
Stoke, freshly relegated from the Premier League, will be a tough game and we can’t expect any favours from a Derby County side with Frank Lampard in charge and keen to make an impression early in his managerial career.
Following those two games comes a fixture against Rotherham, a no holds barred Yorkshire derby.
Then, it’s a trip to South Wales to take on another recently relegated side, Swansea City, followed by a trip to Norfolk to take on Norwich City.
Five tough fixtures to start the season with.
Personally, I’m predicting that Leeds will take 9 points from those five fixtures, but how many points, out of the fifteen available, can you see Leeds taking?
