A few Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media after the club announced that Jordan Stevens has agreed to sign a contract extension.
The new terms will keep the 19-year-old at Elland Road until at least the summer of 2022, having otherwise been out of contract next June if the club did not trigger a one-year extension clause in his previous deal.
Stevens moved to West Yorkshire from Forest Green Rovers in 2018 and has been a regular in Carlos Corberan’s Under 23s, where he scored six goals in the Professional Development League last term and has hit two in seven so far this season.
The winger made his senior Whites debut under Marcelo Bielsa last season, too, with the boss awarding Stevens a quarter of an hour cameo appearance at Stoke City during a Championship game in January.
Gloucester-born Stevens is yet to feature for the first-team again, but has made a further five matchday squads for second-tier fixtures, and was on the bench during our 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Queens Park Rangers last season.
Did Stevens deserve a new contract?
Yes, absolutely
No, he isn't good enough
His development was disrupted earlier in the campaign when handed a six-week ban from all football-related activity by the Football Association, after admitting a charge of placing 59 bets last season, including five on matches involving United.
Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to the news of Stevens’ new contract…
Great news but I’ve seen so many good players at clubs I’ve been involved at not make the grade because they dont get opportunities.

Good to see after all the unfortunate going on with him. Seems a good lad! I hope he presses on towards the first team

I wouldn’t mind if he had to go out on loan to get first team football. Same with Struijk, McCalmont, Gotts, Bogusz, Edmondson etc. Either locally, league 1 or Charlton or M’Boro. Only if they get games though

Hope he gets his chance cos he’s a talented kid rather have him coming off bench think he’s got a great future

In other Leeds United news, Bielsa is expected to have a £2.25million-rated man available for this weekend’s West Yorkshire Derby at Huddersfield Town.
