Well, this certainly seemed unnecessary.

Looks like everything is going swimmingly at the club at the moment. Not only did we bounce back from the Swansea defeat with victory over our Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley on Sunday, but the U23s carried on their unbeaten start to the season with a demolition of Watford at Elland Road last night.

Now U23 results can matter as much or as little as you want them to. You can use them as an indicator to see how well the young talent is doing if results are good. If they’re not, then it’s not really a concern until they reach the first team.

Or if you’re Marcelo Bielsa and you like to play a lot of first-teamers in the U23 to keep them match fit, you’re probably more concerned with players not getting injured, in which case they’re incredibly important. And when it comes to players in the first team, it looks like the Leeds boss wasn’t the only one concerned with who was playing.

The official Watford Twitter feed seemed to take an issue with the appearance of Luke Ayling, a somewhat regular in the Leeds United first team, and it’s fair to say that the United fans weren’t going to take the comments lying down.
