‘Would he get into our midfield?’ – Some Leeds fans discuss player reportedly set for medical

|

Brentford have accepted an improved offer from West Bromwich Albion for Leeds-linked midfielder Romaine Sawyers, according to Sky Sports.

It was understood United were considering a late move to sign the attacking midfielder, after the Bees rejected increasing offers from Celtic and the Baggies as they looked to hold out for more than £3million.

Marcelo Bielsa allegedly gave his backing to the late pursuit, however further reports suggested the Whites’ interest in presenting a rival bid were wide of the mark, and no offers were actually in the pipelines at Elland Road.

Instead, Sawyers is now nearing a deal to join Slaven Bilic for his inaugural season at the Hawthorns, after the Croatian’s West Midlands outfit reached an agreement with Brentford, said to be in the region of their £3million asking price.

Sawyers is now set to undergo a medical with his potential new side, which will leave some Leeds supporters disheartened after they shared their hope in seeing the 27-year-old join Helder Costa in making Elland Road his new home.

Reports that the Saint Kitts and Nevis captain will join the Baggies, though, have received a somewhat different response, as fans are now questioning whether there would have been a place for the 26-cap international in Bielsa’s plans.

Others have pointed out that the 2020-free agent failed to register a goal of his own during a seven-assist 2018/19 Championship campaign, in which he featured 42 times and played 3,642 minutes.

Here’s how these Leeds supporters reacted to reports of Sawyers being set for a medical with West Brom…
