‘Would be perfect’ – Many Leeds fans react as former target craves Whites transfer

|

Many Leeds supporters have been reacting on social media lately, after Football League World suggested former Whites target Callum O’Dowda is craving a move to Elland Road.

The Bristol City star was thought to be one of the wingers high on Marcelo Bielsa’s transfer shortlist back in January, as he and his scouts searched for alternatives for Daniel James. In the end, though, we went all guns blazing in a bid to sign the Welshman and put our plans for O’Dowda on the backburner.

Ultimately, we ended up with neither, and were forced to tackle the remainder of the campaign without the added pace and power on the flanks that we required.

But our interest in O’Dowda appeared to have stretched over the months which defined our promotion efforts, as reports emerged in May suggesting the 24-year-old was angling for a way out of Ashton Gate, and that we were seen as his likely destination. The Mirror later poured cold on that claim, though, as they suggested the board had ruled out renewing our interest in the Republic of Ireland international.

If true, the news could leave O’Dowda in a difficult situation, as Football League World claim the 15-cap ace has his heart set on a move to Elland Road this summer, having rejected three contract offers from Bristol City

FLW also support the Mirror’s report which claimed we had not renewed our interest in the four-goal, five-assists wide man, who started 20 of his 31 Championship appearances in the recent term.

O’Dowda rejecting a new contract at Bristol City is not anything new either, as his continual choice to decline proposals from the Ashton Gate side forced his club to trigger a one-year extension clause in his current deal back in February.

He may now be forced to take his future into his own hands or change his stance if we do not renew our January interest, but there are many Leeds fans who would like the club to do so…
