Wise Reaction to Another Win

Leeds United manager Dennis Wise believes his sides’ strength in depth and a habit of taking a gamble is what helping his side do the business so far this season.

A late goal from on-loan striker Mark De Vries was enough to seal all three points against Yeovil in Saturday’s match at Elland Road, and Wise was convinced that The Whites deserved the victory. Speaking to the official Leeds United website: ‘We deserved it,’ said Dennis. ‘They set their stall out well, and they had the better chances in the first half. The second half was a different game.

‘I said to them to be patient – it’s all about patience – and we had to break them down.”

It was the second match in a row whereby a relatively average performance by Leeds has been rounded off with a late winner from a substitute following on from Ian Westlake’s volley against Oldham, and Wise believes he knows exactly what this is down to: ‘I do like a gamble,’ said the boss. ‘We tried to win the game and put the pressure on them. Why not? We’re at home.

‘It was nice to see Tore back because he’s had big problems, and Mark understood the situation, and he came on and got the winner.’
