With the Whites remaining 8pts away from the play-off places -following our draw last night – I have seen some fans expressing concerns on twitter that we may have to again sell some of our star players this summer.

The sale of Chris Wood at the start of the campaign was extremely disruptive to our plans, and although Lasogga has begun to show some good form in recent weeks, the loss of the New Zealander has certainly been felt this season. The worry that we could again be destabilised by other players leaving is clearly playing on the minds of some supporters.

Samu Saiz and Pontus Jansson have both been crucial for us this year, and against Derby the pair were among the stand out performers. While the Swedish defender was commanding at the back despite the team conceding twice, the Spaniard returned from a six-match suspension to demonstrate what we have all been missing in his absence.

Of course, we still have an outside chance of a play-off place this season, but the fact that we haven`t won since December 26th means such an ambition is likely to be beyond our reach. Some of the focus will inevitably go to our chances of returning to the Premier League next campaign instead.

It is simply imperative that aforementioned duo stay at the club next season. A stable squad is vital for a sustained promotion push, and although there are likely to be some comings and goings in the summer with Heckingbottom now in the hot seat, he must make it plain to Radrizzani that the club must keep hold of its key players.

The club made some poor decisions in the transfer market in the summer, but Saiz was not one of them. He has been superb for us, and we must look to keep him away from the clutches of Premier League if we have the ambitions to being near the top of the table. The same goes for Jansson – who has been nothing but class since his arrival from Torino 18 months ago.

If the club do decide to sell either one of them, Hecks will certainly have an uphill struggle next season to get us where we all want to be. We must have stability, or we could find ourselves in the exact same situation as this campaign.

  • So look at this logically – keep Ayling, Jansson, Alioski, Saiz, Hernandez, Lasogga as first teamers. Cooper, Roofe, Berardi as squad players. Rest can go up for sale.
DeBock is scary at left back so far (he may come good but I doubt it) Anita is either not trying or is not good enough. Wiedwald is Division 2 keeper at best, Lonergan is no better. Grot, Cibicki, Ekuban, Sacko can all go on a free as far as I am concerned (possibly Ekuban may come good but again I doubt it) Kalvin Phillips is not a def mid – and a long way behind alioski, saiz and hernandez as a #8 or #10. Possibly a squad player. O’Kane is bewilderingly poor for his record – he should be much better.
I can go on and on – Think we need tokeep that core of 7 or 8 and sell the rest and start again. And we need to buy players with Championship experience, not fancy dan’s from europe that might be cheaper but who go missing in a Yorkshire local derby etc
