Who’s next in the Elland Road hotseat

|

After Jesse Marsch was relieved of his duties this afternoon, the search for his replacement is well underway with a new coach set to be in place by the weekend.

The Leeds hierarchy took the tough decision to sack Marsch after a poor run of results saw the West Yorkshire club slip dangerously close to the relegation zone, only out of the bottom three on goal difference. The American could only guide the Whites to two wins in 17 games and the club had not tasted victory in the Premier League since November the 5th when they came back from 3-1 down to beat fellow relegation threatened Bournemouth 4-3.

The search for Marsch’s predecessor is in full swing, with the club believed to be looking for someone with Premier League experience.

The names that have been mentioned so far include former boss Marcelo Bielsa, Carlos Corberan who was the youth development coach whilst Bielsa was in charge and Mauricio Pochettino, although the latter would likely require a sizeable offer to tempt him to Elland Road.

Other names mentioned in include Ralph Hasenhuttl, Marcello Gallardo and Ange Postecoglou who would be a fantastic appointment after the superb job he has done with Scottish Premier League leaders, Celtic since his arrival.

It is unlikely Leeds will have a manager lined up in time for the game at Old Trafford on Wednesday but if there is someone in place later this week, it is likely that their first game would be the home game against Manchester United on Sunday. What a way to introduce yourself to the fans, with a win against one of our oldest rivals.
