This was always going to get some disapproving clucks; I just knew it.
It’s no secret that Leeds have struggled to put teams away recently, despite their dominance on the stat sheet. With Marcelo Bielsa himself saying that it’s something that is holding the club back somewhat. However, it gets rather worse when you take a look at this statistic.
Fewest minutes played per chance created in Europe's top 5 leagues and the Championship in 2019/20:
Man City (5.2)
Napoli (5.7)
Lazio (5.9)
Atalanta (5.9)
Real Madrid (6.1)
Bologna (6.6)
Liverpool (6.6)
LEEDS (6.6) ????
Sassuolo (6.7)
Fiorentina (6.8)#LUFC pic.twitter.com/V8SLJo5kmp— LUFCDATA (@LUFCDATA) September 25, 2019
It shows that Leeds United are amongst one of the best teams in all of Europe when it comes to creating chances, at a rate that puts them level with Liverpool and almost as high as Manchester City. Now when you consider how ruthless they can be when it comes to taking their opportunities, it really does make Leeds’ problem of not being able to find the net a rather peculiar one.
So how did Leeds fans react when they saw these figures? Well, it’s fair to say that they weren’t best pleased. Whilst Leeds might be at the top of the league for now, it looks like that isn’t enough to keep these fans calm.
It all looks good but goals for column says the conversion rate % is telling the other story…

Who cares we can’t finish them anyway

If we could put them away it would be too easy and not at all Leeds. Wish we could though #promotedbyxmas #mot #alaw #lufc

@Official_Clemo this is why Bamford gets hammered! Living the dream with all these chances

Great stat and not far away from the likes of Citeh. All bar a 7 actual goal discrepancy from this weekend but still

Sadly it's how many chances we need to create to score each goal.

Great stat…conversion rate is pap though. Eddie to the rescue from here on in hopefully #lufc

As ever, credit goes to @LUFCDATA for their fabulous work in keeping track of these things and doing more research that most of us are capable of.
