Many Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media, after Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Ben White hailed Patrick Bamford as an “unbelievable goalscorer”.
White has been one of the stars of our promotion-chasing season since moving to Elland Road on loan from the Seagulls last summer, and has helped Kiko Casilla to keep a league-high 12 clean sheets.
The former Real Madrid shot-stopper and the Poole-born centre-half are our only players to have played each of the 2,430 minutes of Championship football on offer thus far, having opened each of our 27 second-tier fixtures to date.
We are six league games without posting a shutout, though, having allowed 13 goals to be scored against us since denying Hull City from finding the back of the net on December 10.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men had their own issues finding the back of the net last time out against Sheffield Wednesday as we lost 2-0 at home to the Owls, though White is sure Bamford would have found a way past Cameron Dawson if the opportunities presented themselves.
“We didn’t have many chances in the second half,” White told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “If the chances are there, I’m sure Pat would have put them away.
“Patrick is an unbelievable goalscorer so there’s no worry there.”
Is Bamford an "unbelievable goalscorer"?
Bamford is our leading ‘scorer in the Championship this season with ten strikes in 26 games, double that of second-most man Jack Harrison (five).
No forward in the second-tier has fashioned more shots than Bamford, though, with the £10million ex-Middlesbrough striker attempting 74 to Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic’s 70 and Birmingham City’s Lukas Jutkiewicz’s 65, per Sofa Score figures.
Bamford has also missed a league-high 15 big chances, with Brentford’s Ollie Watkins second with 13 and Derby County’s Martyn Waghorn level in third with Boro’s Britt Assombalonga with 10.
Scoring ten goals from 74 shots means Bamford also only boats a 14% goal conversion rate, while the Championship’s top goalscorer Mitrovic has a 26% conversion rate.

We don’t sign a goal scorer we won’t go up. As much as i am a fan of Bamfords all round ability, he isn’t clinical enough. Evident against arsenal and sheff Wednesday and no doubt will by evident on Saturday at QPR. Chances created to conversion rate we are 22nd in the league

Unbelievable how many decent chances he needs to score a goal? Got time for Bamford but come on, seriously? 🧐

Bamford needs a clinical striker alongside him, being asked to do too much for the team at the moment.
