It is a fair comment to make that Leeds missed a massive opportunity to all but guarantee a spot in the automatic promotion places when we lost to Sheffield United on Saturday.
The defeat means we are now relying on the Blades dropping points, or Norwich to let slip their four-point stranglehold on the Championship, if we are to move back into a top-two position before the curtain falls on our quest for Premier League football.
A suggestion on social media, though, that our quest has already reached its end has come in for some criticism by other members of the Elland Road faithful, namely because of the proposal that we have reached the end of the road as our strikers are not on the same level as our rivals’.
The evidence provided by Kemar Roofe throughout the season, and Patrick Bamford’s wayward efforts on Sunday, would support the fan who has suggested this, as well.
Roofe has only found the net 14 times this season, which accounts for the worst minutes per goal tally between himself, Norwich’s Teemu Pukki and Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp.
Both, the Canaries ace and his Blades counterpart, have also been involved in creating more chances for their teammates than our main hitman has, and the lack of goals in West Yorkshire compared to theirs will likely be what separates us from promotion.
If Bamford continues to demonstrate what he offered on Saturday going forward, the fans who brushed off this latest promotion suggestion will be the foolish ones at the end of the season, not those who agree with the idea…
I would have bamford over sharp every day of the week! The lads been out for best part of the season he’s on six goals now if he stays fit I think he will get close to 15 but that’s just my opinion

Sheff don’t have better strikers than us ????♂️

I thought the same since the January window shut. Stood still whilst others strengthened or had bigger squads than us. Play offs and a day out at Wembley but I think that’s as far as it goes, hope I’m wrong but that’s what my head is telling me, my heart still says automatic prom

Yea you are right gls win games,on another day leeds would of been out of sight by half time and are a better side during the season and wilder has said this,8 gls 0 conceded in 3 games before that is impressive even in the doom and gloom part of the fan base????

We scored 8 goals and conceded 0 in the three games before Sheffield United (West Brom, Bristol City and Reading) but don’t let that statistic get in the way of other fans writing us off because we have 1 point to make up from the 24 available ???????? #lufc https://t.co/pjfuM9i2W6

Shouldn’t get abuse as I reckon it’s wot most of us are thinking.. so reckon it’s the dreaded play offs for us #mot
