Leeds United’s youth squad stretched their lead at the top of the north division of the Professional Development League on Monday with a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers, but it was Alfie McCalmont who earned the attention of many fans on Twitter.

The Northern Ireland U19 international had to wait until the second-half kicked off before he would feature, as he replaced Stuart Dallas after the break, who was making his latest outing as he nears a full return to action.

Gaetano Berardi also featured for the opening 45, and gifted the few fans in attendance with his customary 30-yard effort on goal.

For McCalmont, though, he was able to earn rave reviews from the local media for his impressive passing range, despite only featuring in the second-half.

In that period, however, Leeds United’s U23 were able to put the game to bed and stretch their lead in the Professional Development North Division, and move further clear of Burnley, thanks to goals by Jordan Stevens and Robbie Gotts.

Steven’s opener saw the midfielder round the Wanderers’ goalkeeper, while Gotts’ delicate chip brought his goal tally to four in four.

For these fans, though, it was McCalmont who deserved the praise on social media…
