“We Have Unfinished Business” – Leeds Confirm The News We All Wanted To Hear

|

A short time ago this afternoon, Leeds United officially confirmed the news that we all wanted to hear – the genius that is Marcelo Bielsa remains with us for the coming Championship campaign of 2019/20.

Having pushed hard this year for automatic promotion to the Premier League, injuries and other issues finally caught up with us and we lost out in the race for the top two and disappointingly fell to Derby County in the Championship Play-Off race.

With plenty of speculation about the Argentine’s future, many were hopeful and confident that he would remain at Elland Road for next season, especially as the improvement we need is so obvious to everyone, and that will now thankfully happen.

Owner and chairman Andrea Radrizzani was quoted as saying.

“As the dust settles on the campaign that has passed, I can reflect and say it was a good season and I’d like to thank all fans, staff and all friends related to Leeds United for their continued support. We were close and next season we will work harder to achieve our goal. So, let’s have another go. I am delighted that Marcelo has agreed to stay for another year – we have unfinished business. Enjoy your summer and next year once again we all need to give more – the players, the staff and all of the fans because our goal is close.”

It’s the exact news we were hoping for, and given the stories about plans for next season already coming out, it’s not a great surprise but now there is absolutely no doubt, plans can really begin for a second bite at the cherry next year.

Build on what we have, use that experience, and strengthen properly so we don’t waste as many chances as we did this year and there’s every reason to think we can go one step further and become the next side to taste promotion success 12 months after huge disappointment.
